1. Historic Downtown Delaware

Take a step back in time and discover the rich history of Delaware by visiting our historic downtown area. You can get your bearings by starting out at the welcome center to get an overview of all the historical sites. That way, you can stop by the Delaware attractions that interest you and skip the ones that don’t.
The luckiest visitors to our historic downtown arrive before the first Friday of any month when you can experience curated dining, shopping, and entertainment experiences.

2. Olentangy Indian Caverns

Go underground to uncover the unique history of the Wyandotte Indians at the Olentangy Indian Caverns. Local Native Americans utilized and expanded a series of caves and tunnels to hide from rival tribes and protect themselves from the elements. Inside, you’ll find galleries, passageways, and remnants of the tribal community’s day-to-day life.
A fascinating museum houses many of the valuable artifacts unearthed at Olentangy Indian Caverns. And, if the kids get bored, you can explore the petting zoo or play a round of miniature golf!

3. Delaware County Fair

All of us locals look forward to the annual Delaware County Fair in September. The parades, competitions, and exciting rides draw visitors from all over the state. Attendees can also experience other fun-filled events, including:

  • Demolition derby
  • Truck pull
  • Trailer race

However, the main event is the Little Brown Jug, an action-packed harness racing extravaganza.

4. Boardman Arts Park

Enter a whimsical world of interactive artwork at Boardman Arts Park. Step onto the grounds of Boardman Arts Park and you’ll encounter reimagined refuse converted into fantastic pieces of art that your children will love. Check out the musical waterfall and sculptures of people made almost entirely out of worn-out automotive mufflers. Other popular attractions include a garden maze and a gorgeous unicorn sculpture made from bicycle tires.

5. Perkins Observatory

Contemplate the stars at Ohio Wesleyan University’s Perkin’s Observatory. Once home to one of the most advanced telescopes on Earth, the observatory bears the name of its founder Hiram Perkins. Sadly, the Hiram Telescope moved to another observatory in Arizona to take advantage of the desert’s clear night sky. However, your whole family can still learn a lot about our place in the universe at Perkins Observatory.

Get moving and enjoy some of the unique outings available in the Delaware, OH area this weekend!
