Powertrain
Similar to the Grand Cherokee, the Grand Cherokee L gives the buyer a choice between a 293-hp 3.6L Pentastar V6 and a 357-hp 5.7L Hemi V8. At a respective 260 lb.-ft and 390 lb.-ft, both engines offer ample torque, which comes in handy when you’re towing heavy trailers or venturing off-road. An 8-speed automatic transmission completes the powertrain and provides plenty of grunt throughout the rev range.
Off-Road Capability
The Grand Cherokee L is available with three 4×4 systems that inspire confidence in rough conditions. While Quadra-Trac I is a single-speed system constantly varying torque for optimal traction, Quadra-Trac II adds a low-range mode for greater control when crawling over rocks or ruts. Quadra-Drive II goes even further by being able to send 100% of power to a single wheel with the help of an electronic limited-slip differential on each axle.
In addition to offering these robust systems, the vehicle features 8.5 inches of ground clearance, which can be increased to nearly 11 inches when it’s equipped with the adjustable Quadra-Lift air suspension.
Cabin
The Grand Cherokee L comes standard with second-row captain’s chairs and comfortable seating for six people. Passenger capacity is increased to seven when the captain’s chairs are replaced with the optional 60/40 bench seats. Either way, the second row slides forward to provide quick and easy access to the third row. Both back rows can be folded down for up to 84.6 cubic feet of cargo space.
On the Summit model, a 12-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support and a massage function, heated and ventilated seats, and front memory seats are all standard. Available quilted leather upholstery and beautiful open-pore wood trim add another layer of luxury.
Infotainment and Connectivity
While the Grand Cherokee L Laredo receives an 8.4-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment touchscreen, other models get a 10.1-inch display. Both versions allow users to stream audio, make hands-free calls, and integrate their smartphones with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Not only is an additional touchscreen available for the front passenger, but the vehicle also offers a rear entertainment system with dual 10.1-inch screens.
