1. Deer Haven Park
This fantastic park is where you’ll find the Amy Clark-Bader Bird Sanctuary, which attracts many visitors and birding enthusiasts. When you visit the aviary, you’ll find a wide variety of birds, including up-close views and educational programs for guests to the site. There are trails available to explore migrating birds, prairie areas, trees, and lots of bird feeders and nesting boxes, which offer an incredible range of birds.
Deer Haven Park offers stunning views of wetland habitats, meadows, ponds, forested areas, and mature trees. There’s also an on-site visitor center that provides viewing windows for guests to observe birds from the comfort of the indoors.
2. Seymour Nature Preserve
Seymour Nature Preserve is a fantastic escape from the city and a great place to discover beautiful varieties of trees, birds, and local wildlife. This spectacular park includes ravines, cliffs, rich forested areas, and meadows. You can visit this nature preserve every day just before sunrise and after sunset, in order to enjoy the well-maintained trails and hike through all areas of this impressive outdoor space.
3. Delaware State Park
This state park offers excellent activities for the whole family, including birding, fishing, swimming, camping, boating, and hiking. You’ll discover lots of local wildlife as you explore this reservoir of 1,300 acres, with spacious meadows, forests, and lake access. It’s the perfect place to plan a weekend camping trip, with amenities for RVs and tents, paths for cycling, ball courts, and quiet picnic areas.
4. Alum Creek Osprey Watch
If you’re planning a hike or bicycle ride in and around Delaware, you’ll find great views of the Osprey, including the opportunity to observe the nesting and egg-hatching process. Alum Creek Osprey Watch is ideal for visiting from spring to late summer, where you’ll see Osprey fish for food, fly over the water, and interact with their young. It’s a spectacular place to view this fantastic bird in its habitat with your binoculars and capture great pictures on your camera.
One of the best spots to view birds at this place is Osprey Overlook, where you’ll have the opportunity to scan over the tree line and throughout the park.
