  1. Opa Grill & Tavern

For over 10 years, the Opa Grill & Tavern on South Sandusky Street has been serving the Delaware community with superb Greek cuisine. The restaurant has a fun and friendly vibe and has booths, open tables, and bar seating. The dog-friendly patio offers al fresco dining. They have an amazing selection of bourbon and whiskey, and Opa was chosen as one of the best bourbon bars in the Midwest.

On the menu, the “Opatizers” include spanakopita, falafel, fried zucchini, and Saganaki Opa — a flaming asiago cheese dish. Choose from fresh spreads like tzatziki, garlic or spicy roasted pepper hummus, spinach feta, baba ganoush, and kopanisti. For your entree, try a gyro, calamari, chicken, or falafel platter, spicy chicken argos, or lamb chops. They also offer a choice of pasta dishes and burgers.

  1. Freddy’s Street Food

Located on Columbus Pike, family-owned Freddy’s Street Food is described as a fast, casual, authentic Greek and Italian restaurant. But it’s not your typical fast-food joint: this clean and simply decorated restaurant has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Whether you order at the counter or the drive-thru, the friendly servers will give you a warm welcome.

You can create your own wrap, pasta, or salad. Just choose a grill item such as falafel, gyro meat, calamari, salmon, or vegetarian. You can add any of Freddy’s toppings and finish with a hot sauce or cold dressing. Alternatively, go for one of the superb gyros with your choice of meat, and add some of the street sides. Be sure to save room for the delicious baklava or tiramisu!

  1. Buns Restaurant

While not exactly a Greek restaurant, the menu at Buns Restaurant on West Winter Street captures the flavors of Greece. Established in 1864, originally as a bakery, this stylish restaurant features tasteful art and exposed brickwork. A lovely side room has garage doors to give it an outdoor feel in good weather, and there’s a nice patio.

Greek appetizers include spinach and artichoke dip, house-made tzatziki and hummus, and stuffed portabella. For the main course, you could have the traditional village Greek salad, chicken kebob, moussaka, or a gyro platter. The menu also offers classic American dishes, chicken and pasta, seafood, and a range of sandwiches, including gyros.

  1. Crazzy Greek

A short drive from Delaware, Crazzy Greek in Westerville is worth a visit. It looks very unassuming from the front, but step inside and you’re transported to the Mediterranean. Full-length murals depicting Greek Island scenes give the place a bright and cheerful ambiance.

Authentic food on the menu includes appetizers like garlic or fire feta fries, kibbie, veggie or meat-stuffed grape leaves, or simple feta and olives with pita bread. Alongside your regular favorites, entrees include grilled tilapia, lamb, chicken, or kafta kebob, or their signature spicy chicken on rice.

These restaurants offer a variety of Greek-style dining experiences and will have you humming bouzouki tunes on the way home! Try them all and who knows – you may find a new favorite yourself!
